Event Description

Networking seminar for architects and designers interested to learn about the superyacht industry through the personal experience of designer-maker Eva Mechler.

At this unique seminar Eva Mechler will welcome architects and designers from the Greater Zürich Area who are active in high value discrete projects within Switzerland and World-Wide. Eva Mechler has gained her reputation over several years within the superyacht industry with her competence in production and her ability as a designer. The combination of which efficiently supports project owners who look to artisans to deliver the highest standards of production that their clients demand.

Here is a recent interview of Eva Mechler for The Superyacht Life:

- Superyacht clients have notoriously high standards. How does that help you push boundaries and try new things?
It is fortunate that superyacht owners expect high standards, as it is the same for me as I develop my designs and create objects in my workshop. For sure, I am trying new things as a result of the superyacht industry, for example I am creating my own collection of exterior furniture which will be bespoke for each individual owner.

- How do superyacht clients help to keep traditional skills alive?
Looking at the superyacht industry as a whole it is evident that traditional skills are being employed quite well. The skills can involve all types of materials including glass, metal, wood, fabric, etc. In the end though, it is really up to the artisan to deliver the quality needed so that the owner will return for subsequent works that only true artisans with sufficient skills, training, and experience can provide.

- Can you give examples of some of the most labour intensive pieces you have produced for a superyacht client.
I am working on a project this very moment which involves seven sculptured pieces of solid wood furniture. The complexity is partly due to the practical application of the pieces in use, and partly because of the complexity of the construction itself. More I can not say for confidentiality reasons.

- What sort of trends are you seeing for superyacht interiors?
I think since 2013 when I first entered the industry the trend is now towards minimalism. It has been taken a long time to emerge but I do believe it is happening. For me personally this is very welcome since minimalism is my way.
